UPDATE Monday, January 9, 2024 at 6:00 pm

This message is from The Fairfield Office of Emergency Management regarding flooding preparedness.

As of 5pm today, the State of New Jersey as well as the Fairfield Office of Emergency Management have both declared states of emergency.

The Passaic River is now projected to rise to 21.9’ by Thursday January 11, 2024 at 1 am.  With these levels, the Township is expected to have major flooding that may affect homes and businesses.  For comparison, the final crest height for the river in the December storm was 21.52.”

All citizens and business owners are encouraged to avoid non-essential travel as many roadways will become impassable beginning tomorrow.  Do not drive through standing water as this could be extremely dangerous.   For residents that are located in a known flood area, you can park your vehicle at the township Library.

The Township has set up a sandbag station located at the Fairfield Library, which will remain open for township residents only.  This will remain open 24 hours a day.

Please be advised that while we are trying to give businesses and residents an idea of the areas and streets affected by the flooding, these are estimates based on previous flooding events.  All flooding events are unique.

Additional updates can be found on the Township website www.fairfieldnj.org, channel 34 or 43, as well as our social media platforms.   You can also call the Township’s flood hotline at 201-522-9267 during normal business hours.
