Do's & Don'ts of Fire Safety
Do
- Keep all doors, halls, and stairways open and clear of obstructions.
- Clearly mark all exits.
- Obtain permits from the Fire Official for any pyrotechnics.
- Contact Fire Officials before you allow any performances with pyrotechnics or audience participation.
- Ask Fire Officials for help and advice.
- Train your staff to use fire extinguishers correctly.
- Create a safe evacuation plan.
- Keep fire extinguishers easy to reach and properly tagged.
- Maintain all fire safety equipment, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, etc., in working order at all times.
- Announce locations of all exits prior to and periodically during performances.
- Use common sense.
- Use UL-listed manufacturer replacement lithium-ion batteries if they need to be replaced.
Don't
- Allow overcrowding at any time.
- Renovate without the proper building and fire code permits.
- Hang flammable/combustible decorations from walls or ceilings.
- Allow the temporary use of soundproofing materials. Always consult Fire and Construction Officials prior to allowing any temporary materials to be used in your facility.
- Allow UL-listed surge protector power strips to be overloaded or piggybacked off one another.
- All surge protector power strips must be plugged directly into an approved outlet.
- Allow extension cords to be overloaded or used as permanent wiring. All extension cords shall be unplugged when finished.
